NFL Posters- Top 10

By Matthew Lippe

During the 1980s, NFL had some of the most unique posters of all-time. This list is my personal Top 10. What would you change? Keep the same? Let me know!

Number 10

“Armed and Dangerous” comes in at the Number 10 slot. I honestly think they could have done something a little bit more creative with this poster, especially the name. However, the Zubaz pants are a very nice touch and it’s tough to not make Dan Marino.

Number 9

“Moonlighting” comes in at Number 9. Good title, GREAT unis (I swear put those Oiler unis on anybody and they can throw a 50 yard bomb), and good background. However, Warren should be doing something instead of just standing there; put a little action in it.

Number 8

“The Terminator” knabs the Number 8 spot. The only reason why this poster is not higher up is the name. Like come on, the terminator nick name has been used to death. This doesn’t take away from the fact that LT’s fingers are shooting lasers! Classic.

Number 7

“Goldfingers” is at Number 7. No major complaints from me, a great poster all around. There are better but a strong poster none the less. Side note: Jerry Rice looks like he could be Bond’s greatest nemesis.

Number 6

At number 6, we have “The Bermuda Triangle”. I’m a sucker for the group posters and Singletary, Marshall, and Wilson are a great trio. Shorts may be a little tight, but hey they look pretty cool. Side note: I would buy those shorts in a heart beat.

Number 5

“The Blade Runner” holds down the Number 5 spot. Talk about a cool nickname and a “fire” poster. I think what pushes this poster from good to great, though, are the details. The visor with the scan of the field and the score board with the “Galatic Bowl” are next level. Great job NFL!

Number 4

At Number 4 we have “The Land of Boz”. Talk about a masterpiece. Great name, GREAT detail (“Emerald city” is Seattle… very nice touch!), and of course Brian Bozworth: the definition of cool.

Number 3

Coming at Number 3, “General Blade and the 11th Commando Battalion”. This is my sleeper pick. Probably not one of the ones you think when you think 80s NFL posters, but a well executed group poster always has my vote. Also I just love the props in this poster: A giant sword, torpedo, and grenades that are shaped like footballs. Wow. Just wow.

Number 2

Grabbing the Number 2 slot we have the “Nigerian Nightmare”. Alright, I am a big Chiefs fans, so I may be a tad biased, but I love eveything with this poster. The Bronco, Charger, and Raider players all hiding is great and Okoye looks like he can do some serious damage!

Number 1

Yep, that’s right. At Number 1, “Chicago Vice”. No doubt in my mind this is the best NFL poster. Jim McMahon. Walter Payton. The “Vice” logo. Nothing better, literal perfection.

So, what did I miss? Did I leave out your favorite poster? Was I way off? Let me know in the comments!
